Good afternoon!

 

Session is in full swing already, kicking off with the state budget! Yesterday the Senate Finance Committee heard public testimony on HHSC's budget. In addition to staff, we had multiple members of The Arc of Texas and Texas Advocates share their stories and the importance of funding community based services- this makes all the difference! Thank you!

 

This Monday both House Appropriations Article II (Health and Human Services) and Senate Finance Article III (education). We are thankful to have more members coming on Monday to testify! Eventually the Senate and House versions of the budget will debated and both will compromise on items in conference committee, so we will need more volunteers to share their stories as session continues. If you haven't already, please fill out the google form and share with your members so we can have advocates at the capitol every week! We want a constant presence so the legislators cannot forget about Texans with IDD!

 

In addition to the budget, other bills are starting to be referred to committees. We will keep you posted as our priorities are assigned hearings. Our broad priorities/platform for the 86^th session and our budget tool with our HHSC budget priorities is attached for your reference. More will be posted on the Chapter portal shortly.
